Rhinestone Craft Project - Tissue Box Cover

Celebrate love with this soft pink tissue box cover created in rag style with pink homespun fabric and embellished with lots of sparkle and bling using Jubilee Rhinestone iron on transfer designs.  This craft project would be cute sitting on your desk and dispensing tissues during Valentine season.  If shabby soft is your style, you could create this in a color that coordinates with your decor and display it year around.

Want to try it yourself?  We've included some simple instructions below for this "rags-n-rhinestones" style tissue box cover.

Rags-n-Rhinestones Tissue Box Cover

You'll need about 1/2 yard "homespun" fabric of your choice. (It must be homespun in order to get the soft fray on the edges)  Prewash your fabric and steam press well.

Measure the side and the top of your tissue box.  Add 1" to the width and 1" to the height.  Use these measurements and cut 8 side pieces and 2 top pieces.  Make each side and the top 2 layers thick so that you ultimately have 5 pieces as shown below.  Cut a small hole in the center of the top. (cut through both thicknesses)

Embellish your pieces now as desired with Jubilee Rhinestone iron on rhinestone designs and patchwork patches.

Stitch the pieces together as shown below with 1/2 inch seams.  Stitch around the center hole of the top about 1/2 inch from the raw edge.  Clip the circle to the seamline with clips about 1/2 inch apart.  Be careful not to cut into the stitching.

Stitch the last two sides together to form a "box".

Now stitch the remaining three sides of the top to the remaining three side pieces.

Clip all the exposed seams allowances with clips that are about 1/2 apart.  Be very careful that you do not clip into the stitching.  Clip the bottom edge as well.  Now to create the fluffy "fray" shabby look:  Machine wash and dry.  Yep, it's really that easy!  If you use homespun fabric and clip the exposed seam allowances, your washing machine will do all the work for you and you'll have a cute shabby "rags-n-rhinestones" tissue box cover!
