Rhinestones Project - Valentine Bag

Here a SUPER simple and SUPER quick little valentine bag that is designed to hang from the back of a chair. It's a perfect receptacle for all your special valentines and notes as well as a cute holiday decoration. All you'll need to create this cutie yourself is 2 ribbed style placemats, wide ribbon, a thin dowel rod and iron on rhinestone embellishments. See our simple tutorial below. Have fun!

Cut one placemat in half. Place one half on top of the uncut placemat with the finished edge in the center. Stitch a 5/8" seams along the 2 sides and the bottom to secure the two pieces together. Leave them unstitched in the center.

Pinch the corners flat, matching up the seams, and stitch across to form a boxy corner on each side.

Trim the excess (the point) off the stitched corners.

Fold the top flap down and stitch a pocket across the top wide enough to hold a small dowel rod.

Cut a small dowel rod just a little bit shorter than the pocket. Set aside.

Stitch ribbons onto each corner below the dowel rod pocket. Be careful not to stitch the pockets closed. Insert the dowel rod into the pocket. Use a small dab of glue to secure the rod in place on each end if necessary. The rod should be completely inserted into the pocket and not visible.

Now decorate and embellish to your heart's content! For this Valentine Bag that we made for Mindy, we used the following Jubilee Rhinestone iron on transfer designs:
